On January 23, 2023, the 2023 Half Moon Bay shootings occurred at two farms near Half Moon Bay, California. This tragic event resulted in seven deaths and one critical injury, marking it as a devastating instance of workplace violence. The suspect, a 66-year-old man, was connected to both farms, having lived and worked at one and previously worked at the other. The incident had a profound impact on the local community, particularly those associated with the agricultural workplaces involved.

Five years earlier, on January 23, 2018, the Marshall County High School shooting took place near Benton, Kentucky. A 15-year-old student opened fire in an open area of the school, leading to the deaths of two students and injuries to fourteen others. This event deeply affected the community and sparked important discussions about school safety. The shooter was later sentenced to two life terms with the possibility of parole after 20 years, along with an additional 70 years.
